2 Days Left for Early Registration!

Bozeman Tritons Triathlon

Saturday, July 30 and 31, 2011

4 Months and Counting until the Bozeman Tritons Triathlon!

www.bozemantritons.org/tritonstri

Yesterday I left the office for lunch and was greeted by scores of happy robins frolicking in the spring snow melt!  As I looked closer on the way home, south facing plant beds were showing the first shoots of spring bulbs.  Word has it that the East Gallatin Pond, the site for the races, is half melted.  One crazy Triton actually speculated that open water swimming is just around the corner!  With over 100″ of snow in the mountains, I think that might be overly optimistic.

More importantly, there are only two days left for the early bird registration.  Join your fellow triathletes and save a few bucks on the early registration.  With registrations from Georgia, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Montana, California, and Canada, we have most points of the compass covered.

We have a full weekend of racing on tap with something for everyone.  The Long-Course (formerly the Headwaters Half) and Youth Race (variable distances for those under 16) are both on Saturday.  Sunday’s Sprint and Junior races (formerly the Treasure State Tri) are perfect for everyone.   Something for the entire family.  Or double up for a real challenge.  Individuals, pairs and teams of three are welcome.  Also in the works are a mini-expo and possible spaghetti feed.  More on that as we get details worked out.

Bozeman Tritons Triathlon – 9 Days Left for Early Bird Registration!

We had our first tastes of spring in the Gallatin Valley this the past couple of weekends.  Technically, it is spring, but the 10 inches of new snow this morning make it feel a long ways off.  Even so, we’ve spotted plenty of folks taking advantage of the occasional dry roads and sunshine on their road and tri bikes.  On my way back from Bridger Bowl this on Saturday I was almost tempted to get on my bike and try out some of the long-course bike course.  Almost…..

A reminder, Early Bird registration for the Bozeman Tritons Triathlon ends on March 31.  Save a few bucks and register today!  We’ve had a lot of interest in both the long-course and sprint races, and registrations are off to a strong start. For race information and registration, please visit our race website at www.bozemantritons.org/tritonstri.

We welcome REI, our newest sponsor, to the team.  This means even better prizes and an awesome raffle!

Check out the new race poster below!  Train on and we’ll see you in July!

Tritons Run to the Pub!

An absolutely beautiful spring day greeted a dozen Tritons, and another twelve hundred or so runners, at the annual Run to the Pub yesterday. It was great to see everyone out there on the course — at the start line, the finish chute and Pub 317 for a couple of pints of Guinness. Sadly, and previously our exclusive domain, with JayZ winning it the first year and yours truly in 2010, the Tritons did not 3-peat on the Trip to the Dublin Marathon this year. We’ll just have to bring home the trip in 2012. And, how about former Triton Coach Aubrey Curtis winning the overall 10K  in a blistering pace of 5:49? Nice racing everyone. Nothing like getting the race season rolling, the heart pumping, especially with the Montana Masters Swimming Championships and the Grizzly Triathlon on the horizon.  See you out there again soon. ERIN GO BRAGH!

No Excuses – Swim Training Options During Bozeman Swim Center Closure 3/7-27

Yes, it’s true! The Bozeman Swim Center will be closed for three weeks starting tomorrow, March 7 to March 27, for a  main pool pump and lighting upgrade. The pool will reopen on its regular schedule on Monday, March 28. In the interim, swim training is available at the MSU Fitness Center.

Triathletes have two MSU Pool training options – (1) joining and swimming with the Bozeman Masters Swim Club during their scheduled workouts or (2)  swimming-on-your-own during lap swimming hours. General information on each program is available here — www.bozemanmasters.org and http://www.montana.edu/getfit/Marga_Hosaeus_Fitness_Center/facilities/pool.html

MSU Spring Break adds another minor scheduling inconvenience wrinkle, from March 11 to March 20.  Regardless, our great friends at the Bozeman Masters Swim Club (BOZE) issued an email last night, which thankfully addresses and ends these swim training coordination hassles. The email clearly, and comprehensively, laid out swim training scheduling options over the next three weeks, in detail, as follows.

OPTION #1 –JOIN &  SWIM WITH BOZE
The BOZE schedule for the remaining month of March is now revised. Additional swim workouts have been added at MSU, as follows.

Mo, Mar 07, 6-730pm at MSU
We, Mar 09, 6-730pm at MSU
Su, Mar 13, 4-6pm at MSU
Mo, Mar 14, 6-7pm at MSU
Tu, Mar 15, 6-7pm at MSU
We, Mar 16, 6-7pm at MSU
Mo, Mar 21, 6-730pm at MSU
We, Mar 23, 6-730pm at MSU
Sa, Mar 26, Montana Masters Swimming Championships at MSU
Su, Mar 27, Montana Masters Swimming Championships at MSU
Mo, Mar 28, 6-730pm at MSU
Tu, Mar 29, 7-830pm at Swim Center
We, Mar 30, 6-730pm at MSU
Th, Mar 31, 7-830pm at Swim Center

OPTION #2 SWIM-ON-YOUR-OWN
During the Swim Center closure, swimming-on-you-own is available during lap swim times at MSU, as follows. The cost is $7/day, and you can swim more than once that day. Weekly passes are available  for $20, or monthly for $60. The Tritons recommend that you call ahead to the MSU Fitness at (406) 994-5000 to confirm your workout timetable, in the event of possible MSU scheduling revisions, especially over Spring Break.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday 6:30-8:00am-Lap Swim
Tuesday, Thursday 6:00-8:00am-Lap Swim
Monday-Friday 11:00-1:00pm-Lap Swim
Monday-Friday 4:00-6:00pm-Lap Swim
