Establishing Another Triton First – The Triton “A” Team

The Club is pleased to announce that Bangtail Bikes is elevating its sponsorship of the Bozeman Triathlon Club. The sponsorship provides a new, two-tiered platform of support for the Club and its members from Bangtail Bikes, Trek Bicycles, and Specialized Bicycles. This approach provides generous support for both Club general members and a newly established Triton “A” team. Discounts will be available to all Tritons on Trek Bicycles, Specialized Bicycles, and all other Bangtail Bikes triathlon and cycling gear and accessories.

To qualify for these Bangtail Bikes sponsorship benefits, Tritons must be members in good standing with the Club and be proactive in supporting triathlons and cycling in the Bozeman community. The Bozeman Tritons appreciate Bangtail’s ongoing and growing commitment towards the Club, our Treasure State Triathlon and Headwaters Half Iron, and our local triathlon and cycling communities. Stop by the store in downtown Bozeman, and say hi to Chris, Stan, Mason, Al, Rob, John, and Mike, and be sure to thank them!

Thank You Triton Volunteers for Supporting the Headwaters Half Iron

Thanks to all of our Triton volunteer members who made this year’s Headwaters Half Iron a wonderful success. BRENDA, SUZIE, BECKY, KARA, MARY, AUBREY, MARTIN, DAVE, MARGO, JENNA, JON, FURRY, ALANNA, BRYCE, LAWRENCE, MILICA, JULIE, LAURIE, TONY, AND BOZ — YOU ARE ALL ROCK STARS! The Bozeman Triathlon Club appreciates you supporting the event, and giving back to our local triathlon community. What an experience, and inspiring race day! I’m feeling really good about it, and still smiling. Without question, the event was a Triton love fest, 21-strong, with heaping amounts of positive energy. I know I appreciate each and every one of you, and your contributions. Overall, my takeaway from the race was the good vibe atmosphere — the smiles and laughter, the cheering, and seeing teammates really enjoying and appreciating each other, developing friendships. There is a tremendous amount of team enthusiasm and support for the Tritons hosting and directing the Headwaters Half Iron and Treasure State Triathlon, commencing 2011. Creativity, the sharing of ideas for future races were bursting at the seams. A few teammates even had mini novelettes underway. Well, not quite, but megabytes of brain drives were definitely in use. If you’re inclined, and while it’s still fresh in your mind, please go ahead and jot down your ideas, suggestions, lessons learned, etc., and send them to Laurie, Lawrence, and me. The race day experience in the years ahead will definitely benefit from your input. Remember. Next year. It’s our party, in our house. Thanks again for your tremendous support, have a great week, and TRAIN ON.

Auckland to Host 2012 ITU Age Group World Championship

Monday, 28 June 2010

AUCKLAND TO HOST 2012 GRAND FINAL

ITU announced today that Auckland, New Zealand will host the 2012 ITU World Championship Series Grand Final. The news was made official by members of Triathlon New Zealand at a press conference on the Auckland Waterfront this afternoon. Auckland was awarded the bid over cities from Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

The Grand Final is the most prestigious race on the ITU calendar each year, and the Auckland event will be the final race to decide the 2012 ITU World Champions. The four-day event is set to take place from 18-22 October 2012 at Queens Wharf in the heart of Auckland. The sport’s biggest superstars, including Olympians from over 20 nations, will come to New Zealand, a country with a great triathlon history. Triathlon is one of the fastest growing sports in New Zealand and is home to many of the world’s greatest triathletes, including 2004 Olympic gold medallist Hamish Carter and two-time Olympic medallist Bevan Docherty.

“New Zealand is a very passionate triathlon country,” Docherty said. “We have a very strong history – with Hamish [Carter] winning gold and with my two Olympic medals – it is a fairly well recognised sport already.”

Fellow Kiwi Andrea Hewitt, who finished last season ranked third in the world, echoed Docherty’s comments.

“To have the 2012 World Championship Grand Final in Auckland will be amazing, not only for us as competitors, but for the spectators and public as well. Everyone loves triathlon in New Zealand, so it will be great to host the best race of the season in front of an appreciative home crowd.”

Triathlon New Zealand CEO Dave Beeche feels the event will be very beneficial to the city of Auckland.

“Hosting this World Championship Series Grand Final will be a huge boost for the profile of Auckland and New Zealand, with an estimated global audience in excess of 13 million watching on TV. But just as important is what this event will do for the sport and the profile here in New Zealand. This is like having the Olympics come to town for our sport—the very best in the world will race the likes of Bevan Docherty, Kris Gemmell, Andrea Hewitt and Debbie Tanner in our own backyard.”

The race, which will take place along the world famous Auckland Waterfront, will double as the 2012 ITU Age-Group World Championship, bringing thousands of age-group athletes and triathlon fans to New Zealand.

This year’s Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series Grand Final will take place in Budapest, Hungary on 8-12 September, with the 2011 Grand Final set to take place in Beijing. The World Championship Series began in 2009, staging eight events throughout the world, including the first-ever Series Grand Final in Gold Coast, Australia. This year’s seven-race series will culminate in Budapest, with stops along the way in Sydney, Seoul, Madrid, Hamburg, London and Ktizbühel (Austria).

Auckland has hosted an ITU World Cup event on four occasions, from 1995-1998.

It’s official. With the ongoing I-90 overpass construction in Three Forks, the Headwaters Half Iron is being relocated from Three Forks to Bozeman. WE NEED YOU! A TRITON CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS
Show your appreciation. Take your turn. Volunteer to support your fellow triathletes racing at the Headwaters Half Iron. Tony Brendgard is the race director again this year, but the Tritons will be taking over this race and the Treasure State Triathlon next year. This is a great opportunity for non-racing Tritons to give back to our local triathlon community,  support our local race and set the stage for the Tritons next year. Just recall how much you appreciate the volunteers when you are racing! Full and partial race day volunteer assignments are available. To volunteer, please contact Laurie Thatcher at laurie.thatcher@gmail.com or 580-9160.
