A MIXER HELLO
Triton Teammate & New Board Member Jeremy Lefeber
In response to recent requests for volunteers, veteran teammate Jeremy Lefeber has graciously volunteered to serve on the Bozeman Triathlon Club board. Jeremy is a welcome addition, given his ongoing role as general counsel for the Club, in tandem with the Berg Law Firm’s continued support and sponsorship of the Tritons. Jeremy has been instrumental in spearheading the organization of the Club as a non-profit business entity. Please welcome Jeremy and wish him the best of luck with this new opportunity and with his Ironman Utah race in a couple of weeks! Jeremy will join existing board members Laurie Thatcher and Sherri Pearson, and Club Treasurer Rob Knapp. (As an aside, after helping start the Club four years ago, my term is simply now up, and I plan to devote even more of my ever dwindling personal time towards training (Ironman CDA and now the Dublin marathon!). Again, as this Mixer informally serves as the Club’s annual meeting, if you interested in volunteering to serve the Club in some capacity, or have other ideas, please just let the Club coaches or directors know.

A MIXER GOODBYE
Triton Teammate Jonathan Long
Yes, sadly, the rumor is true. The Tritons are losing one of our more active, faster, and visible members – Jonathan Long. JLo, wife Shaina, and the little one, Cormac, are relocating to Olympia, WA. Their last day in Bozeman is set for April 26th. Shaina has accepted a new position, and JLo is now busy searching for rain hardened bicycles and cycling gear. No kidding. And, an STP ride has now been bandied. We’ll see. For the Mixer, JLo reports that a sitter is in place and he’s stopping by “to say goodbye to everyone on the team.” Wish him farewell, the best, and long live the 2009 Speedos & Stetsons RoundUp!

04.02.2010 Triton News – Training, Triton Mixer

TRITON RUNNING
Starts This Tuesday, April 6th, Meet at the MSU Track @ 6:00 PM
Triton Coaches recommend group running every Tuesday this year at the MSU Track. The program runs from April 6th through October 19th, and is provided by, and in cooperation with, the Zombro Physical Therapy Interval Training Group. A rotation of coaches will lead these training sessions every Tuesday evening, with Triton Coaches Laurie Thatcher, Matt Parks and Alanna Sherstad serving as three of the “Workout Ambassadors.” These training sessions have the potential to significantly improve your running economy, leg turnover, and performance. The major purpose of these sessions is to provide a welcoming group training environment where runners of all ages and abilities can gain the benefits of interval training, while working at their own level. Coaches recommend warming up, prior to the 6:00 PM start time. Group drills will be conducted from 6:00-6:15 PM. The actual running portion of the workout will begin promptly at 6:15 PM. Early season running conditions are highly variable. Dress appropriately and be prepared for rain, sleet, wind, snow, or sunshine. Click on the link for the complete ZPT Interval Training Group program.

USAT Pacific Northwest Region Winter Triathlon Championship Results

Brutal. Hardest thing I’ve ever done. Harder than an Ironman. Yes, the puppies were indeed howling on Sunday.

Summarizing the race, competitors tossed out a few juicy expletives in transition and at the finish line, too.

Hills, ice, varying course and snow conditions, especially along the “soft” bike course, challenged racers all morning long.

At the finish, all were happy to have endured, to LIVE ON, remembering “YOU ARE A POWDER HOUND!”

Welcome to the emerging world of winter triathlon, Montana-style.

Congratulations to the USAT Pacific Northwest Region Winter Triathlon Champions. Well done, indeed.

#1 Female — Laurie Thatcher

#1 Male — Alex Lussier

The Bozeman Triathlon Club and Homestake Lodge thank all racers, dog pound supporters, USAT, the USAT PNW Region, and our sponsors for supporting the Championship and Powder Hound Winter Triathlon. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the Powder Hound in 2011! Growl on.

Powder Hound Winter Triathlon & Camp

Hey everyone! A last reminder about the early bird deadline for the Powder Hound Winter Tri. Grab some friends and do it as a team, or go solo. It should be loads of fun and a good time all around – racing, music, food, beer, and (hopefully) sunshine! Early bird deadline is today, January 16. Print off a form on www.homestakelodge.com/events or sign up on www.active.com.

Also, we have a great weekend planned for the Triton winter tri camp. We’ll be doing lessons and wax clinics. There will be lots of time for free skiing, or game playing and hanging out by the fire in the lodge. Don’t forget to sign up!

Hope to see you the last weekend in January.

Snow and Ski conditions at Homestake Lodge: We have good skiing right now. Its been warm and we haven’t received a lot of snow yet this year, but the conditions are surprisingly good. There are some thin spots out there, but other than that the skate skiing is super.
