Tritons Triathlon – Mid-May Update

Here’s a repost from the race website (http://www.bozemantritons.org/tritonstri/).  Check it out for more information!

Hello all!  We are having a spectacular Spring in Bozeman!  Temperatures in the 70’s and even some 80’s are bringing people out of the woodwork and training.  Three weeks ago there were even folks swimming in the pond!  Last year we might of even had ice on the pond still.

I took a nice drive on the Long-Course bike route this weekend and can report that it is in fantastic shape!  The views of the snow on the Bridger Mountains with the contrasting green in the foothills is providing inspiration for folks to put in some perfect long, Spring miles.

Registrations continue to roll in.  At last check we were at 150 total, so sign up now so you don’t miss your slot.

Our sponsors continue to treat us well.  Baja Fresh will once again be providing great food for after the race.  Rudy Project is on board with big shopping spree certificates ($220 value!) for the top three men and women in both the long-course and sprint races!  Hammer Nutrition will be keeping everyone fueled on the course!  REI Bozeman is once again letting us go on a big shopping spree to ensure that the raffle is loaded with quality swag.  It will be another grand day of racing in Bozeman!  See you in July!

MONTANA’S POWDER HOUND TRIATHLON NAMED HOST OF USA TRIATHLON WINTER NATIONALS!

Homestake Lodge and the Bozeman Triathlon Club welcome your participation in the fourth annual POWDER HOUND — the first winter triathlon in the State of Montana and the northern Rockies.

The Powder Hound Winter Triathlon will serve as the USA Triathlon Winter National Championship. Podium finishers will qualify for Team USA and be eligible to compete at the ITU Winter Triathlon World Championships in Jämijärvi, Finland on March 24, 25 2012.

The Powder Hound offers athletes – including triathletes, multisport athletes, Nordic and downhill skiers, mountain bikers, cyclocross riders, cyclists, runners, swimmers, off-road enthusiasts, beginners from all sport disciplines, and many others — a terrific opportunity to expand their multisport skills, vary mid-winter training, improve fitness, have fun, and compete.

Participants may race as individuals, in pairs, or in teams of three. Registration includes the race, lunch, and a trail pass for a full day of Nordic skiing at Homestake Lodge, Montana’s best new Nordic skiing venue.

Come on out to Homestake Lodge, race or volunteer, and enjoy the entire day. Growling, howling and other basic powder hound communication skills are mandatory. Non-propulsive, snow canine accoutrements are welcome.

Come on! Discover the fun and competition of a winter triathlon. Be a POWDER HOUND.

Tritons Fall Gathering!

Everyone is invited to join us for our Triton Fall Gathering:
When: Friday, November 11th, 5:30 – 7 PM
Where: 612 West Main St. Bozeman (bottom floor of the Northern Rockies Psychoanalytic Institute)
Food and Drink: Tritons will supply some snacks.  Please bring your beverage of choice.
Please RSVP to bozemantritons@yahoo.com so we know how much food to bring.

We do have some business to attend to.  First up, we will hopefully be doing our winter Computrainer rides starting in January.  We’d like to get an idea of who is interested in participating so we can get the program in place.  Julie Zichovich is pulling together a series of triathlon clinics, most likely hosted by REI.  Any input that folks have on content would be appreciated.  The Powder Hound Winter Triathlon is on again for this year.  We may be looking for some hardy souls to help with the event on race day.  And don’t forget, the Tritons will once again be hosting the local Sprint and Long Course triathlons (Bozeman Tritons Triathlon) this year on Sunday July 29, 2012.  This is a huge effort to put on and was received by the racers with a lot of enthusiasm last year.  We are already starting to get next year’s race rolling and we need some folks to step forward and be part of the effort.  More information on that at the meeting.  If you can’t attend the meeting and want to be involved in either the winter riding or race planning, please let me know!

Mark Your Calendars!  Sunday, July 29, 2012

We still need confirmation from the City for permits, but we should be set for 2012’s Bozeman Tritons Triathlon!  The big change for this year is that we are combining the Sprint and Long Course races on the same day.  More people, more stoke, and more happening all day long!

The response from last year’s race was fantastic.  So don’t miss your chance to sign up for 2012.  Space will be limited, so make sure you register early.  Registration opening will be January 1, 2012.  Set your New Year’s Resolution to complete a race in Bozeman!

If you can’t race, but want to be part of the event, we are always looking for volunteers to help out!  Anything from course directors to aid station volunteers are available.  Build your karma and get involved!

Race Update – 4 Days Left for Early Registration

USA Triathlon Sanctioned Event Offers Races for All Ages, Abilities, Entire Family
During Fun-filled Weekend of July 30, 31 at East Gallatin Recreation Area

Regular Registration Ends June 30!

A quick update for those who have been holding off on registering.  We know you are out there!  Only 4 days left to save a few bucks on your race registration.  Our numbers continue to look great, so why not join in on the fun.  Race solo, or put together a team.  It’s sure to be a grand weekend.

We’ve added a second start wave to the Sprint race.  This will help the slower swimmers, or just those that are a little bit nervous about the swim, have a great race experience.  You can select your start wave on the registration form.  I’ll send out an email in a few weeks to get your choice from every those of you who have already registered.  Also, we are unfortunately dropping the Youth Race from Saturday’s events.  This race was actually being put on by the City of Bozeman, with help from the Bozeman Triathlon Club.  For a number of reasons, the City has chosen to not host the race.  Hopefully they will pull something together later in the summer.

Keep in mind that the race is a fund raiser for the Montana Conservation Corps (http://www.mtcorps.org/).  A portion of race profits will be donated to MCC in a effort to support their ongoing efforts to both provide hands-on conservation and education growth and learning opportunities for youth and young adults.  Their impacts are noticeable throughout the region through their work in local communities and public lands.   Donations can be made when registering, or through the following link:  http://www.active.com/donate/mtcorps

Please help the Bozeman Tritons raise money for this important cause.  The website is secure, fast and easy to use.  At the website you will be able to choose an amount to donate and receive email confirmation of your donation. I will be notified via email as soon as you make your donation. Thank you, and please forward this email to as many people as you can to encourage more people to donate!

Complete race details can be found at www.bozemantritons.org/tritonstri. If you have a question about the race, contact us at racedirector@bozemantritons.org.   Train hard and we’ll see you soon!

Race Update – Spring in Bozeman!

USA Triathlon Sanctioned Event Offers Races for All Ages, Abilities, Entire Family
During Fun-filled Weekend of July 30, 31 at East Gallatin Recreation Area

Reminder!  Regular Registration ends on June 30th.  There are just over two weeks to save a few bucks.  So why not go on line now to register now?  Register for the Sprint    Register for the Long Course

The courses are all in great shape!  The photo above is from the top of the Long Course run.  We’ve had a wet spring, but that will mean lots of wildflowers out on the courses.  Folks are swimming in the East Gallatin Recreatin Area.  We’ve been out on the bike courses and they all seem to have survived the winter.  We’ll be out marking the major hazards and sweeping the turns before the races.  Registration numbers are strong, so all is looking good!

We’ve had a great response to our Call for Volunteers!  Many thanks to all who have already.  The volunteer positions list (Volunteer List) is posted on line.  Take a look and let us know what looks good to you.  If you are interested in helping out take a look at the list and contact Laurie at laurie.thatcher@gmail.com

Complete race details can be found at www.bozemantritons.org/tritonstri. If you have a question about the race, contact us at racedirector@bozemantritons.org.   Train hard and we’ll see you soon!
